Sponsored by the Midwest Center for Holocaust Education, renowned
historian Dr. Robert Jan van Pelt, a leading expert on Auschwitz,
addresses the trials that brought Auschwitz into the courtroom.
In 2000, Dr. van Pelt participated in Deborah Lipstadt's defense
in the civil suit brought by British Holocaust denier, David
Irving.
Van Pelt wrote a 770-page expert report that he defended in court
during five days of cross-examination.
Substantial parts of this expert testimony, along with a more
general analysis of the role of Auschwitz in Holocaust denial,
formed the basis for the 2002 publication, The Case for Auschwitz: Evidence from the
Irving Trial.
Dr. van Pelt is currently a professor in the School of
Architecture at the University of Waterloo in Ontario, Canada.
